A child waits...

Like all children, the children in the Domincan Republic are beautiful! The children become available for adoption in the Dominican Republic mainly due to the extreme poverty conditions in the country. Some of these conditions include lack of housing, proper nutrition, medical care, and HIV. The children reside in government-operated orphanages where they receive much needed care.

Most of the children are healthy, although there are some with medical needs. The children range from infant up to sixteen years of age. Sibling groups of two or more are also available. The children are of African, European, and Indian ethnic mix.

Who can adopt...

• Adopting parents must be at least 30 years old and no more than 60 years old
• Married for a minimum of 5 years
• Singles with child rearing experience
• Age difference between the adopting parent and adopted child must be at least 15 years
• Residency requirement of 60 to 90 days in the Dominican Republic

How to adopt...

The paper process to adopt from the Dominican Republic is similar to most foreign adoption procedures.

• A family needs an approved Inter-country Home Study from a qualified adoption agency
• Papers with USCIS (U.S. Immigration) must be filed
• Documents verifying birth, marriage, employment, criminal clearance, medical and psychological evaluations, and letters of reference are some of the documents needed to assemble a dossier

In-country process...

• It will take 9-12 months after your completed dossier arrives in the Dominican Republic for the adoption process to be made final in the Dominican Republic.
